The Irish Kennel Club is delighted to announce the return of The Golden Paw Hero Dog Awards 2026, proudly sponsored by Agria. Following the incredible success of previous years, this year’s awards promise to be even more inspiring as they celebrate Ireland’s bravest, most devoted and life-changing dogs.
Do you know a dog who is worthy of a Golden Paw? Have they been your hero when you really needed one? Whether they’ve saved a life, offered unwavering companionship or served with courage in law enforcement, now is their moment to shine. Nominations are now open in seven categories:
Life-Changing Dogs Therapy / Guide Dogs Bravery Dogs Search & Rescue Dogs Rescue / Rehomed Dogs Companion Dogs Law Enforcement Dogs
Each nominated hero will have the chance to be recognised on a national stage. A distinguished panel of judges (to be announced soon) will select finalists in each category. The overall winners will be revealed at a dazzling awards ceremony and lunch on Saturday 21st February 2026 at the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, where finalists and their humans will enjoy a day filled with celebration and recognition. Each category winner will take home a coveted Golden Paw trophy, cash prize and hamper with further prizes for the overall winner.
In previous years, the Golden Paw Hero Dog Awards have captured the hearts of the nation, with finalists featured on The Late Late Show, Virgin Media News and RTE’s Today. In 2023, President Michael D. Higgins was presented with an honorary Golden Paw Award for his late Bernese Mountain Dog, Bród, while in 2025 a special award was given to the late Charlie Bird’s dog, Tiger.
