Starting June 26th 2021 from Dun Laoghaire Marina and continuing Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Brian Ború is a 25 Meter 55-tonne traditional sailing vessel, based in Dun Laoghaire Marina. Manned by a professional crew, they offer cruises with a difference taking passengers onboard for 3-hour excursions across Dublin Bay. Help set the sails or just sit back and relax, it’s totally up to you! Learn about the basics of sailing and local history while on board with your expert guides. Bay Sails run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, starting June 26th. Private charters are also available. Get the full VIP experience and charter the boat with skipper and crew for a week, a day or a half-day. An exciting option for a trip to remember with family, friends or corporate groups! The History of the Vessel
The Brian Ború, named after the last High King of Ireland, is a beautiful wooden-hulled, traditionally-built and rigged gaff ketch. Originally launched in 1961, she worked as a herring ring-netter up until 1989, and as a general fisher, up until her decommissioning in 2006. She was bought in 2011 by Tony McLoughlin who having found her in disrepair and with the help of his sons carefully restored her. Following a ‘Leader’ funded restoration and conversion project in 2014, she now operates under Irish license as the sole Passenger and Sail Training Vessel of her type around the island of Ireland, carrying up to 12 passengers and 3 crew.
Dublin Under Sail owners Michael Byrne and Jonathan O’Brien are entrepreneurs with a background in tall ships and a commitment to social inclusion.
