This private Cervical Screening Service incorporates standard Cytology (PAP Smear Tests) and testing for HPV Virus. Due to the increase in the HPV virus which is the now the main cause of Cervical Cancer particularly in younger women, HPV testing is an integral and mandatory part of this private screening service, as well as the more traditional PAP smear testing. HPV can be treated effectively with early detection.
Any abnormality detected will be escalated by our referral process for a priority follow up with a specialist consultant at a Private Hospital, or if preferred, to your GP for Public Hospital referral . For example, this may be for a colposcopy, which is an examination with a microscope and staining techniques, with an optional or appropriate biopsy if required. Only 2% of smear tests are abnormal however.
