Dublin South FM is proud to celebrate 30 years of community broadcasting, marking a major milestone not just for the station but for community radio across Ireland.
As founder Mike Purcell recalls:
“And so on Saturday 5th June 1995, the sun shone extra brightly on the Dublin South Community Radio studios and offices, located in the historic PYE centre where radios had been produced in the nearby factory since the late 1930s.”
From humble beginnings, Dublin South FM has grown into a vital voice for local culture, business, and community affairs. Now operating from their state-of-the-art studio in Dundrum Town Centre for 18 years, Dublin South FM 93.9FM continues to champion the values of accessibility and participation.
30th Anniversary Celebration
To mark this special occasion, Dublin South FM invites the public to join them for a day of celebration at Dundrum Town Centre. With the kind support of the Dundrum Town Centre’s management and sponsored by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, we will be hosting a live outside broadcast at 4pm at their stand near the main entrance on the 3rd floor.
The broadcast will feature station founder Mike Purcell, local business leaders and community representatives who will be discussing the importance of community and their respective roles.

This event is not just a celebration for Dublin South FM - it's a tribute to community radio itself: independent, locally focused, and driven by people who care deeply about where they live.
