Fionn, a star player on the St. Dominic’s U16 GAA team in Cork, was diagnosed with leukaemia just 3 weeks ago. Since then, he has been receiving treatment at Crumlin Hospital and will continue his care in Cork. Facing his diagnosis with the same determination and resilience he shows on the pitch, Fionn has become an inspiration to his teammates and the wider community.

On Monday 26th May, St. Dominic’s GAA hosted a fundraiser at the Glanworth GAA Clubhouse, where Fionn and many of his teammates shaved their heads in a powerful act of support and awareness-raising. The event aimed to raise funds for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, Ireland’s national children’s cancer charity, which provides vital practical and emotional support to families affected by childhood cancer.

The fundraiser has already raised nearly €26,000 in just four days, a testament to the strength of the local community rallying around Fionn and his family. Donations are still being welcomed online at https://www.idonate.ie/event/WeStandWithFionn.

Aoibheann’s Pink Tie assists families touched by childhood cancer with accommodation, everyday expenses, special outings and emotional support services. The charity also operates Aoibheann’s Lighthouse, a specially renovated home near Crumlin Hospital that provides respite for families travelling from outside Dublin.

Looking ahead, the charity’s annual flagship fundraiser, Strip & Dip, will take place on Saturday 7th June 2025 in Wicklow. Now in its 12th year, the women’s-only event expects over 700 participants to bare all and brave the cold sea in support of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie. Since its inception Strip and Dip has raised over €1.3 million to support families affected by childhood cancer across Ireland.

Please contact Rosie O’Toole or Dee Featherstone for further information, interviews, access to Strip & Dip (women only) etc.
