Aoibheann’s Pink Tie – the national Children’s Cancer Charity – has just launched a Christmas Charity Single – called ‘Santa Can Ya Hear Me’.
Aoibheann’s Pink Tie was founded in 2010 after the death of Jimmy Norman’s daughter Aoibheann. Mick Rochford is a co-founder of the Charity – who also suffered the loss of his daughter Saoirse.
Mick wrote, performed and dedicated this Christmas song to Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, and was delighted to have the Sea of Change Choir performing. The song makes us think of children that have lost their battle to cancer, lost Sea of Change Choir members, and anyone that has lost someone dear to them and wished they were home for Christmas.
It was recorded last week, with the Sea of Change Choir, led by Deirdre Featherstone, Strip and Dip, under the expert direction and recording of Ian Brabazon, who works with the Sea of Change Choir and Strip and Dip on an ongoing basis.
Aoibheann’s Pink Tie is the national children’s cancer charity, and its main goal is to offer practical support to families going through childhood cancer. Aoibheann’s Pink Tie provides a hand to hold offering practical and financial support to families including travel expenses, accommodation, payments towards household expenditure but more importantly moral and practical support for the family unit as they travel through cancer treatment. Aoibheann’s Pink Tie also provides Emergency Packs, Hickman drysuits for swimming and showering, and the Chemo Duck project.
Much of their fundraising over the years has resulted in the purchase and renovation of a house – Aoibheann’s Lighthouse – in Drimnagh, Dublin, funds for which were boosted considerably with the continuing proceeds of Strip and Dip – a huge fundraising initiative by Deirdre Featherstone, herself a cancer survivor, as well as The NRFA (The National Refined Firefighters Association of Ireland) who have made a huge contribution to the funding of essential services for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.
The Aoibheann’s Lighthouse Project is a vital service, giving families from every part of Ireland who have a child receiving vital cancer treatment in Hospital, clean, safe, purpose-built accommodation for the period of their child’s cancer treatment.
“We pride ourselves on working with and helping the members of the community who pass through our door daily. Working with Aoibheann's Pink Tie was a no-brainer for us to further spread some Christmas cheer along with creating awareness for this incredible charity.” Martin McCaffrey, owner Hole In The Wall
